Times ColonistThe former manager of the Red Lion Inn appeared by video in Victoria provincial court Wednesday on five charges of aggravated assault.Zhi Wei Meng, known as Wally, is charged with stabbing five employees at the Red Lion Inn and Suites on the afternoon of Nov. 17. The stabbings took place in the dining area and kitchen of the hotel’s Jade Fountain Restaurant.Meng, 54, a part-owner of the hotel, is in custody at the Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre. Steven Kelliher, Meng’s defence lawyer, asked for the case to be adjourned until Jan. 16.“Mr. Meng, under medical care, is much improved and we’re hopeful in this next month or so, an application will be made for his release on bail,” Kelliher said outside court.
