RCMP investigating early-morning shooting in Courtenay

Comox Valley RCMP are investigating an incident early Sunday in which multiple shots were fired at a vehicle and two buildings in Courtenay. Police say they received a report of a possible shooting about 2:30 a.m.

Comox Valley RCMP are investigating an incident early Sunday in which multiple shots were fired at a vehicle and two buildings in Courtenay.

Police say they received a report of a possible shooting about 2:30 a.m. and discovered the damaged vehicle and buildings in the 900-block of Cumberland Road.

The major crime unit and forensic investigators were gathering evidence at the scene Sunday, but found no indication that anyone was wounded in the attack.

No victims have come forward to police.

The RCMP said in a news release that investigators do not believe the shooting was a “random incident,” but offered no further explanation.

"We are actively investigating and would like to speak with any witnesses who saw or heard anything suspicious in the hours leading up to what happened," Staff Sgt. Glen Breckon of the detachment’s major crime unit said in a statement.
