Thanks to a clear-eyed witness, West Shore RCMP have a suspect in custody after the Island Savings in Langford was robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday.

Police received a call about 11:30 a.m. from the Island Savings at Jacklin Road and Attree Avenue reporting that it had been robbed.

A lone male entered the credit union, produced a firearm and demanded money, police said. The man, who was wearing a balaclava, received an undisclosed amount of cash and fled in a black 2004 Cavalier.

A witness was able to give police the licence plate number of the vehicle.

Investigators located the car at a Sooke Road residence in Langford. Three people were initially arrested but investigators have determined that only one person was involved, said Cpl. Kathy Rochlitz of the West Shore RCMP.

No one was injured in the incident but the credit union remained closed for the day.

West Shore RCMP asks that anyone with information contact them at 250-474-2264 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
