Port Alberni RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance in locating the person who stole a collection of Christmas donations made to the Salvation Army.

Police responded to an alarm at the Salvation Army Thrift Store at 2984 3rd Ave. at 12:37 a.m. Tuesday. The door was open, but police found no one inside.

“Members arrived to find the front door unsecured without any damage at all,” Cpl. Denis Sauve of the Port Alberni RCMP.

A Salvation Army donation kettle was missing, along with an undetermined amount of money. Sauve said money is rarely stolen from Salvation Army locations as the organization does not normally leave money unattended.

“Salvation Army properties do not keep funds on the property, so for whatever reason, there was a kettle with funds in it.”

Port Alberni RCMP ask anyone with information related to this incident to call the department at 250-723-2424 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). — Alberni Valley Times
