Oak Bay police gave a 24-year-old man with a novice licence a 24-hour driving prohibition after he was involved in a single-vehicle crash Jan. 26 on Cadboro Bay Road, near Bowker Avenue.

Police said they believed the man’s ability to drive had been affected by marijuana.

He also received a $368 ticket for driving without due care and attention, and the vehicle sustained damage of about $4,000.

A witness said the vehicle appeared to be speeding when it lost control and veered off the road before hitting a curb and coming to rest in a garden.
