Nanaimo RCMP say investigators are urgently attempting to locate the witnesses, as they may have evidence that is key in supporting charges against a suspect who was arrested.

Nanaimo RCMP want to speak to two unidentified people who talked to officers responding to fires set intentionally along the Nanaimo Parkway on Tuesday.

Police had already issued a request for witnesses, and are now asking to hear from this particular pair — one of whom is known to have chased a suspect and also tried to extinguish some of the flames.

Both were in the area about 12:20 p.m. and left a short time later.

The suspect was arrested.

“Investigators are urgently attempting to locate these witnesses, as they may have evidence that is key in supporting charges against the suspect,” said Reserve Const. Gary O’Brien.
