Saanich police are asking people to check their dashcam footage after at least three motorcycles were seen travelling at high speed — up to 270 km/h — and weaving in and out of traffic on the Patricia Bay Highway Monday evening, prompting more than a dozen 911 calls.
Officers tried to stop the riders, but they failed to pull over and continued to accelerate.
One of them was clocked at 270 km/h, which Const. Markus Anastasiades called “an incredibly dangerous speed that put all road users at significant risk of injury that evening.”
“We are asking the public to check their dashcam footage to see if they captured the riders, who did multiple laps up and down the highway around 7 p.m.,” said Anastasiades.
Witnesses said the motorcycles were racing along the highway and heading into neighbouring Central Saanich, North Saanich and Sidney. Reports came from the West Shore, as well.
The motorcycles are described as red, blue and black sports bikes with no visible licence plates.
