West Shore RCMP are investigating a report of an attempted abduction in the parking lot of the Shoppers Drug Mart at West Shore Town Centre between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Police said a 17-year-old female was reaching into the back seat of her vehicle when a man approached from behind and shoved her into the seat before closing the door.

Another man then approached and tried to get in through the driver’s side door, but the victim reacted quickly and managed to keep him out by hitting the lock button on her key fob.

A bystander saw what was happening and yelled at the men, who took off around the side of the store toward Kelly Road.

Both suspects are described as being in their late 20s or early 30s with facial hair or a beard, and wearing dark pants and a dark hoodie.

One was about six feet to six-foot-two and had a possible tattoo with swirl patterns on a wrist or hand.

“We would like to make the public aware of this, as it is a concerning investigation into an attempted abduction,” said Cpl. Nancy Saggar, adding police believe the incident was targeted.

No other similar cases have been reported and public is not believed to be at risk, Saggar said.

Mounties would like to speak with the bystander who scared away the suspects, she said.

Anyone who saw the incident or has dashcam video is asked to call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.
