Police looking for witnesses to robbery, assault in downtown Victoria

Police say a man was struck on the back of the head, causing him to fall to the ground, then kicked while he was down.

Victoria police investigators are looking for witnesses to a robbery and assault that occurred on Feb. 2.

The victim told officers he was walking along the 1600-block of Douglas Street near Centennial Square between midnight and 1 a.m. on Feb. 2 when he was approached by a group of men.

While speaking with the group, the man was struck on the back of the head, causing him to fall to the ground. The group began kicking him before taking his backpack, hat, scarf and cellphone.

An unknown teenage girl, who is not believed to be involved in the assault, returned the victim’s cellphone.

Investigators are looking to speak with the girl, who is described as 16 to 17 years old with long brown hair and wearing dark clothing.

Officers would also like to speak with anyone else who was in the area at that time, who may have seen or heard anything related to this incident.
