West Shore RCMP are investigating a report of a sexual assault involving a girl age 14 to 16 Tuesday in View Royal Park.

The incident took place between midnight and 2 a.m. in the Pheasant Lane park, near the intersection of Helmcken Road and the Trans-Canada Highway. Police said the girl was alone in the area and was approached by a male suspect, who assaulted her.

She sustained minor physical injuries.

“We would like to remind the public to take precautions when travelling alone at night,” said Cpl. Nancy Saggar. “It is a good idea to travel in a group, or let a friend or a loved one know where you are going to be and what time to expect you home.”

Saggar said the investigation is in its preliminary stages, police have received no similar reports and it appears to be an isolated crime.

The suspect is described as white and in his early 20s with a slim build, and appeared to be underweight. He had facial stubble and possibly dirty blond hair, and was carrying a Gatorade bottle.

He was wearing a blue zip-up hoodie, dark sweat pants and white shoes.
