The Ladysmith woman who died after an altercation at a modular home park last week has been identified by police as Rayna Johnson, 55.

Police and B.C. Ambulance paramedics went to the home in the 10000-Block of the Trans-Canada Highway just before midnight on Feb. 3, following a 911 call about a fight between a group of people at the home.

Despite the efforts of first responders, the woman died at the scene, police said.

A 50-year-old man, Trevor George Meers of Ladysmith, was arrested and on Thursday police reported he was charged with one count of manslaughter in Johnson’s death.

Meers remains in custody pending his next court appearance set for Tuesday by video conference.

Police said the Johnson and Meers knew each other.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit continues to investigate the death with assistance from the RCMP Forensic Identification Section and Ladysmith RCMP, police said today.

“As this matter is now before the courts, no further details will be released,” said Island District RCMP Cpl. Darren Lagan.
