Police dog Uno did his job early Thursday, tracking down three suspects after a 28-year-old man was assaulted in downtown Victoria.

Uno and his handler, Const. Sue McLeod — the department’s longest-serving dog handler — followed a track over several blocks before finding the men hiding in bushes in the vicinity of Courtney and Quadra streets. They ranged in age from 19 to mid-20s.

The assault, which police said was unprovoked, happened about 12:30 a.m. near Broughton and Blanshard streets.

The victim had non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspects will appear in court at a later date.
