About 9:45 p.m. Thursday, a female driver hit a Saanich police vehicle in the 3700-block of Cadboro Bay Road, near Beach Drive, causing minor damage to the back bumper.

Officers used pepper spray to subdue an allegedly impaired driver Thursday night, after a Saanich police vehicle was clipped.

It began with a report about 8 p.m. of an intoxicated female in Mystic Vale Park on the University of Victoria campus.

By the time police arrived, the person had left.

Officers remained in the area and at about 9:45 p.m., a female driver hit a police vehicle in the 3700-block of Cadboro Bay Road, near Beach Drive, causing minor damage to the back bumper.

The woman was pulled over on Cedar Hill Road, and became hostile and refused to comply when asked to provide a breath sample, police said.

“During this incident, our officers were faced with aggressive and assaultive behaviour. Given the driver’s level of intoxication and the contact made with the police vehicle, action was taken to quickly and safely remedy the situation,” said Insp. Damian Kowalewich.

After she was subdued with pepper spray, the woman was arrested and given a 90-day driving prohibition. She has since been released with a court date.
