A 17-year-old Langford man was sent to hospital with serious injuries after he was struck by a car near Tillicum mall on Friday night.

The young man was crossing Tillicum Road near Maddock Avenue mid-block, just after 10 p.m., said the Saanich police.

The pedestrian crossed the northbound lane where there was no crosswalk.

“Then he continued looking for northbound vehicles and walked out into the path of a woman who was heading south,” said staff Sgt. Scott Treble. “He was still looking in the wrong direction.”

The teen was wearing dark clothing and carrying a skateboard.

He sustained injuries to his head, shoulder, upper arm and hand.

Treble said that while the injuries are serious, they’re not considered life-threatening.

The 21-year-old Central Saanich female driver will not face charges.

“She was offered and accepted some counselling assistance that we offer through our police department,” Treble said.
