Out-of-control Colwood driver honked to warn people to get out of his way

A 17-year-old driver’s decision to lean on the horn as his vehicle sped toward a Colwood beach this morning likely saved two people from injury.

West Shore RCMP said the man continuously honked his horn as he headed down the hill on Lagoon Drive at about 8:30 a.m. toward Ocean Boulevard in what is believed to have been an effort to alert people on the beach that he couldn’t stop.

The vehicle went through the Lagoon Road-Ocean Boulevard intersection, over the bench where the two people had just been sitting and came to rest on the beach. It ended up perched on a number of logs.

The driver was conscious when emergency crews arrived and was taken to Victoria General Hospital with unknown injuries.
