A would-be burglar escaped on a bicycle after Oak Bay residents arrived home about 7:15 p.m. Sunday to find the man standing on their front porch.
Police were called and found a screen door had been removed to get access to the porch at the residence in the area of Lorne Terrace and Maquinna Street.
They said the thief had unsuccessfully attempted to pry open a window in the home.
The Saanich police Forensic Identification Section was called in to investigate.
