The Oak Bay branch of the Greater Victoria Public Library will remain closed for up to 12 weeks after dust contaminated with asbestos was found in an isolated area of a workroom in late January.

Spokeswoman Hayley Goodgrove said Friday the district is awaiting results from additional testing this week and will provide an update when the test results are received.

Oak Bay is working with the GVPL to deliver library services at another location in the municipality. Details will be announced if another location can be found.

The expiry date for items on hold at the Oak Bay branch will be extended until the end of February.

Books and other items can be returned to any other library location. Plans are underway to install a temporary drop box to return library material at the Monterey Recreation Centre next week.

Questions about library services and programs can be directed to GVPL’s customer service line at 250-940-4875. Customer service staff are available Monday to Saturday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
