No report before Brotherston sentence

A pre-sentence report will not be prepared for Gregory Brotherston's sentencing hearing.

A pre-sentence report will not be prepared for Gregory Brotherston's sentencing hearing.

Brotherston, 31, pleaded guilty last week to manslaughter in connection with the death of Col-wood resident Richard Green after an altercation outside a pub in October. The son of former Highlands councillors Ken and Marie Brotherston is to be sentenced Dec. 17 and 18 in B.C. Supreme Court.

On Monday, Justice Carol Ross denied a Crown application for a pre-sentence report to avoid potential delay of the sentencing hearing. "Two weeks is such a short time frame. There's concern about the report not being done and not being done properly in that time frame," said defence lawyer Richard Neary.

Green was injured after he intervened in an altercation between Brotherston and ex-girlfriend Kelly Sousa at the Country Rose pub Oct. 8. Brotherston slapped Green, who fell and struck his head. Broth-erston was arrested the next day and charged with aggravated assault. The charge was raised to manslaughter after Green, 57, died.
