Nanaimo RCMP officer punched in the face by woman at hospital

A 25-year-old woman walked up to an Oceanside RCMP officer at Nanaimo General Hospital Monday afternoon, and allegedly tapped her on the shoulder and punched her in the face. The officer’s nose was broken in the assault, according to an RCMP release.

A 25-year-old woman walked up to an Oceanside RCMP officer at Nanaimo General Hospital Monday afternoon, and allegedly tapped her on the shoulder and punched her in the face.

The officer’s nose was broken in the assault, according to an RCMP release.

The woman, a Victoria resident, had been released from the hospital around 3:15 p.m. The officer was at the hospital on an unrelated matter.

The reason for the attack is unknown. RCMP are recommending a charge of assault causing bodily harm. The woman is set to appear in Nanaimo Provincial Court Tuesday.

The officer assaulted has five years police service and will be off-duty to recover.
