Nanaimo police team looking for woman missing four months

Sherry Corrigal, 22, stopped contacting friends and family in September, which is unusual, say Nanaimo RCMP

A full-time team of investigators has been assigned to the case of a woman missing since early September, say Nanaimo RCMP.

Sherry Corrigal, 22, was reported missing to police on Nov. 9.

“There’s some red flags,” said Reserve Const. Gary O’Brien. “She had consistent contact with her friends and family, and that contact stopped in September.”

Dozens of tips and leads have so far not helped to locate her.

O’Brien said Corrigal has been unhoused at times, and has also lived off and on with friends or family.

“It’s extremely unusual, given her lifestyle, that she would stop having contact,” he said. “For that reason, we dedicated full-time resources to working on this file.”

Const. Simon Gallimore said that police would like anyone who has seen Corrigal to contact them directly.

“Police are aware of social-media posts going around asking people to contact persons other than the police with information,” he said. “This has resulted in numerous unsubstantiated rumours circulating about what may have happened to Sherry.”

That isn’t helpful to police, he said.

“Rumours are just that, rumours,” Gallimore said. “They are a very poor source of information for the investigative team.”

Corrigal is described as about five feet tall and 90 t0 100 pounds with long dark hair and several distinct tattoos on her arms, hands and back.

Anyone with information is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
