Three men are in hospital with serious injuries after a crash Friday morning on the Nanaimo Parkway.

The crash took place about 7:30 a.m. after a northbound driver lost control of his older model Ford Ranger. The pickup crossed the grassy median and hit a southbound Chevy Silverado and a Volkswagen Jetta, said Nanaimo RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien.

The drivers of all three vehicles were transported to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with unknown injuries, police said. None of the cars had passengers.

More than 24 emergency workers were on the scene with four ambulances and two fire trucks and a rescue truck from the City of Nanaimo Fire and Rescue.

The road reopened about 2 p.m.

Traffic analysts were still working to determine the cause of the crash, but O’Brien said the wet roads were believed to be a factor.
