A bait car lasted only two hours on the streets of south Nanaimo before two men were on the hook with law enforcement.
Nanaimo RCMP were notified Tuesday afternoon that a bait car had been stolen.
Officers heading to the area spotted the car on the Trans-Canada Highway heading into Ladysmith.
Concerned about public safety, the officers decided to disable the engine. The car came to a stop on the shoulder of the highway near Grouhel Road, Const. Gary O’Brien said.
O’Brien said officers found a substance believed to be crystal meth and a stolen motorcycle in the rear of the car.
Two men were arrested and taken into custody.
One man, who was in the passenger seat, slipped as he got out of the car and hit his head on a cement barrier. B.C. Ambulance paramedics took him to hospital, where he was treated for a minor injury. He was then transported to the Nanaimo RCMP detachment.
Jordan Daniel Plamondon, 27, has been charged with theft of motor vehicle, driving while prohibited, and possession of a controlled substance.
Shane Michael Smith, 44, has been charged with possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance.
Both men appeared in Nanaimo provincial court on Wednesday.
