Nothing but a shell remains of a motorhome that was destroyed by fire in what Nanaimo RCMP say was an arson on Wednesday night.

RCMP spokesman Const. Gary O’Brien said fire crews were called about 8:30 p.m. to the 600 block of Albert Street to contain the fire.

He said witnesses reported what they believed to be an “unhoused individual” running away from the burning motorhome along the railway tracks on Milton Street.

O’Brien said the suspect is described as white, five-foot-six and wearing a long overcoat and a hat.

No one was injured in the fire and O’Brien said fire crews contained the blazed before it could spread.

Police ask anyone with information to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
