Nanaimo motorcyclist airlifted to Victoria hospital after crash

A 23-year-old man suffered serious injuries in the crash, which happened at Howard Avenue at Fifth Street about 7:45 p.m.

A motorcycle driver involved in a collision in south Nanaimo on Thursday night was airlifted to hospital in Victoria.

Nanaimo RCMP said the 23-year-old man suffered serious injuries in the crash with a car at Howard Avenue at Fifth Street about 7:45 p.m.

Reserve Const. Gary O’Brien, an RCMP spokesman, said a 70-year-old woman driving an older model Hyundai had stopped at at stop sign and was travelling north through the intersection on Howard Street when the collision occurred. The motorcyclist, operating an older model Suzuki, was travelling eastbound.

The woman driving the car stayed at the scene while paramedics and police attended. RCMP said drugs and alcohol have been ruled out for the woman.

The investigation continues.

RCMP ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision or have it on dash cam video to contact the detachment at 250-754-2345.
