Nanaimo man jailed 90 days after admitting to possession of child pornography

A Nanaimo man has been sentenced to 90 days in jail for possession of child pornography. Richard Allan Melville will serve his time on weekends in order to continue his employment. Melville pleaded guilty on Nov. 6.

A Nanaimo man has been sentenced to 90 days in jail for possession of child pornography.

A number of conditions are included in the sentence. Melville cannot have contact with youth under the age of 18 unless he obtains prior consent from a probation officer and is supervised.

He is banned from possessing a computer, storage media and any device that has access to the Internet. He will be named under the Sex Offender Information Registration Act.

The charge was the result of a search of two residences carried out by the Nanaimo RCMP on Sept. 9, 2010. Police seized a laptop and DVDs.
