A 28-year-old Nanaimo man who suffered massive head injuries after riding his bike into the side of a car died on Sunday.
The man, who police have not yet identified, was on life-support at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital after a severe cycling accident Friday.
According to police reports, the cyclist was riding in heavy rain down a steep hill on Wall Street when he hit the right side of a car turning into Bowen Park.
The Nanaimo man was intoxicated and not wearing a helmet. Police also said the man would have also been difficult to see because he had no lights and was wearing dark clothing when the accident occurred around 8 p.m. Friday.
The 36-year-old driver of the vehicle the cyclist struck is receiving counselling.
