A motorcycle rider suspected in a Metchosin hit-and-run is facing several charges, including resisting a police officer and driving while prohibited.

West Shore RCMP were called to a Colwood parking lot in the 3300-block of Metchosin Road about 12:20 p.m. Sunday after a report that a man who appeared to be intoxicated was trying to start a motorcycle.

The man was found riding the motorcycle and tried to flee but was stopped by officers.

The 33-year-old was showing signs of alcohol impairment and was arrested, police said.

It turned out the man was prohibited from driving at the time of the arrest and was bound by conditions that included not being in the driver’s seat of any motor vehicle.

Police noticed that the motorcycle matched the description of a motorcycle involved in a hit-and-run earlier in the day, reportedly sideswiping a Mazda CX-5 near the 4900-block of Sooke Road in Metchosin.

The motorcycle was being illegally driven on the shoulder of the road when it hit the car, police said.

A witness provided a licence plate number.

The motorcycle was impounded and the suspect was held in custody until appearing in court Tuesday, when he was released with an upcoming court date.

He has been charged with wilfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer, refusing to provide a breath sample, four counts of driving while prohibited and breaching a release order.
