Molly Campbell, the Victoria toddler whose rare form of leukemia put her in the intensive care unit this weekend, has serious damage on the right side of her brain, said her father Dave Campbell on Twitter.
Molly remained in a coma Monday, but she was stable enough to have an MRI scan, said Campbell.
“Damaged or not, we just want our little girl back,” he said on Twitter.
Doctors planned to begin weaning her off anti-seizure medication, he said.
Doctors intubated the two-year-old and had attempted to induce a coma with little luck, after the young girl began a series of persistent seizures beginning Friday, Dave wrote on mollycampbell.ca, a website dedicated to Molly.
She was not responding to anti-seizure medication.
“Molly now on minimal stimulation, means we can’t talk to her or even hold her tiny little hand. I hope she can feel me right by her side!” Dave wrote in a tweet on Saturday.
The entire Campbell family, including mom Rebekah and four siblings, relocated to Memphis, Tenn., in November so Molly could receive specialized treatment there at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
The treatment is not available at B.C. Children’s Hospital, where Molly went initially.
In Memphis, Molly’s medical costs are being covered by St. Jude’s, but Pearson said Dave and Rebekah currently have no earnings and are finding it hard to deal with the costs of day-to-day living.
A fundraising garage sale for the Campbell family is planned for June 15 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at 1710 Pearl St. Anyone who would like to donate items or to help with tasks like setting up can call Tara Wilcox at 250-380-0881 or email [email protected]@timescolonist.com
