Man sought in bear-spraying near Victoria drop-in shelter

Victoria police are looking for the man who pepper-sprayed a man and a woman during an argument outside Rock Bay Landing on Ellice Street. Police were called to the drop-in shelter Wednesday around 10:30 p.m.

The victims were in severe pain after they were sprayed at point-blank range, police say.

Victoria police are looking for the man who pepper-sprayed a man and a woman during an argument outside Rock Bay Landing on Ellice Street.

Police were called to the drop-in shelter Wednesday around 10:30 p.m. after someone sprayed the two with bear spray, said police spokesman Const. Mike Russell. The two were in severe pain from being hit point blank with the spray and several people inside the shelter were also suffering from the effects of the contamination.

The victims told police they were sitting outside and were approached by the man when an agrument broke out before the man sprayed them.

B.C. Ambulance paramedics treated the two at the scene.

The man was identified by staff and officers using video surveillance.
