A man wanted in connection with an alleged domestic dispute on Pender Island was picked up on a Saltspring Island beach Thursday morning near a rowboat he used to make his getaway.

Outer Gulf Islands RCMP received a 911 call at 2 a.m. Thursday from a woman who said she’d been assaulted by her husband. The woman said her husband had thrown her to the floor of their home and threatened to kill her.

She grabbed her two-year-old child and fled to get help. An RCMP dog handler arrived on the island at 4:30 a.m. to track the suspect.

Assisted by the coast guard, officers in an RCMP boat and aircraft located the suspect at 8 a.m. The RCMP are recommending the man be charged with assault and uttering threats.
