A 20-year-old man was arrested Thursday afternoon after being found inside a Finlayson Arm Road residence by a resident returning home.

West Shore RCMP asked the public to stay away from the area of Finlayson Arm Road and Millstream Road after being alerted just before 1 p.m. to what they were told was a break-and-enter in progress, because they believed someone inside the home could be in possession of a firearm.

The man was arrested at 4:40 p.m. with the assistance of a police negotiator, and a firearm was located.

The suspect is known to police and remains in custody pending a Friday court appearance.

There was a heavy police presence during the incident, including the RCMP Emergency Response Team and a police dog. Finlayson Arm Road was closed and nearby residents were asked to stay inside their homes.
