Police have arrested a man in connection with four arson fires in Victoria and Saanich over a span of three months.

Victoria police arrested Edwin Singh, 42, on Sunday night after a lengthy investigation by major crimes detectives.

Singh has been charged with setting three fires on Government Street in June and July and another in Saanich in August.

“While no one was injured in any of these fires, they resulted in significant damage to property,” VicPD said in a statement on Tuesday.

Police said no other details about the investigation are being shared at this point as the matter is now before the courts.

Two of the fires involved vehicles.

On June 23, a vehicle at a car rental business was set on fire in the 2500 block of Government Street. The blaze caused significant damage and was extinguished by a passing VicPD officer.

On July 12, a new Mercedes convertible was set alight and the fire spread to other new vehicles at Three Point Motors, at 2546 Government St.

The same day, items on a loading dock were set on fire at a business in the 2300-block of Government Street.

The last charge involved a fire on Aug. 16 in the 700-block of Tolmie Avenue in Saanich, where items in a loading zone were set on fire.
