The condition of an 85-year-old man injured in a home invasion May 20 continues to improve in hospital.

The senior and his 59-year-old daughter were hurt after a masked man forced his way into a home on James Heights, which borders Cedar Hill Golf Course.

The man was hospitalized for treatment of head injuries while the woman was treated at the scene.

William Irving Reedel, 27, of Campbell River, was arrested a few days after the attack.

Reedel made his initial court appearance Monday and has been remanded in custody. He is due back in court June 7.

Saanich police Sgt. Steve Eassie said police believe the attack was a random criminal act.

“There’s no indication as to why that home was picked.”

Police continue to seek public help in locating a light-brown 1999 Toyota Camry stolen from the home. The B.C. licence plate number is HWM644.

The car is thought to be somewhere between Victoria and Campbell River.

Mall parking lots and remote roads are among the possible spots where the vehicle may have been left, police said.

“It’s certainly something that our investigators would like to recover for the victim,” Eassie said. Finding the car could also help with the ongoing case, he said.

Saanich police ask anyone with information to call the police major-crime tip line at 250-475-4356 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
