An 84-year-old man miraculously survived being struck in a marked crosswalk, while a 64-year-old was allegedly badly beaten by his neighbour after an argument over the mans loud radio music, in separate incidents in Oak Bay Sunday night.
At about 5:40 p.m., the 84-year-old man was crossing to the east side of Cadboro Bay Road at Thompson Avenue at a crosswalk marked with a flashing light when he was struck by a southbound sedan.
It was dark and raining heavily, police said.
Miraculously, he doesnt appear to have extensive injuries at all, said Oak Bay Police Sgt. Don Symes. Hes a fighter.
The pedestrian remains in hospital for observation but is expected to recover fully. Hes very, very lucky, Symes said.
The car driven was driven by a 68-year-old woman.
Later that night, the 64-year-old man was badly beaten after his 27-year-old neighbour complained about the older mans loud music.
The alleged attack happened in an apartment building in the 2000 block of Oak Bay Avenue just off Foul Bay Road.
The young man allegedly confronted his older neighbour about the loud music coming from his radio, said police.
The two men argued and the 64-year-old returned to his apartment and locked the door, only to have the 27-year-old break in, police said Monday.
He kicked and beat him on the floor, Symes said.
The older man was sent to hospital with injuries.
The younger man has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and remains in police custody; he is scheduled for a court appearance Tuesday.
