Wet snow could fall at some higher elevations Thursday night, including the Malahat Highway.

“Definitely places like the Malahat could see some of the first flakes of the season,” said Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon. “That’s kind of the first blast and possibly more next week.”

Any snow is not likely to stick around and should get washed away quite quickly by rain, he said.

It’s all part of the atmospheric river expected to bring heavy rain — from 30 to 70 millimetres — and high winds Thursday night and into Friday in Greater Victoria and on east Vancouver Island.

Southeast winds are forecast to be 40 to 60 kilometres per hour, with gusts to 80 km/h Friday afternoon and into Friday night.

The rain should taper off to showers Friday afternoon, while winds should ease by early Saturday.
