A vehicle being driven without its headlights on early Tuesday morning turned out to be stolen — and had a machete stashed in it.

Saanich police officers spotted the vehicle about 2:45 a.m. near Quadra Street and Tattersall Drive. They attempted to pull it over but the vehicle increased its speed and kept going. It came to a stop at the corner of Quadra and McKenzie Avenue after what appeared to be a mechanical breakdown, Sgt. Steve Eassie said.

The vehicle had been reported missing from Langford. A machete was found between the front seats. An 18-year-old male and a 17-year-old female, both of Langford, were in the vehicle.

“Both occupants of the vehicle were on [court] conditions not to have contact with one another,” Eassie said. — Times Colonist
