A search is underway in Nanaimo after a man who lives on a sailboat near Hammond Bay was reported overdue by friends on Saturday.
Nanaimo RCMP said 35-year-old Ryan Pratt was last seen about 4 p.m. Friday on a red aluminum skiff as he headed back to his sailboat. The skiff was later found washed up on a nearby island, and a canoe Pratt often used was found adrift.
An extensive search of the shoreline and nearby waters by Nanaimo Search and Rescue, the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre and RCMP West Coast Marine Services has so far been unsuccessful.
