LifeLabs has closed two locations in Greater Victoria and adjusted hours at two more because of “severe” staff shortages due to the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, the company said Wednesday.

The Yarrow location at 650 Fort St. and the Hillside lab at 1641 Hillside Ave. have been temporarily closed.

The Cedar Hill lab at 1590 Cedar Hill Cross Rd. and the Colwood location at 582 Goldstream Ave. will see limited service and reduced hours of openings.

In total, LifeLabs, which provides a range of laboratory tests, from diagnostic to genetic, has temporarily closed 11 locations across B.C. and cut back the hours of five more.

“LifeLabs has made the difficult decision to temporarily close and/or adjust hours at select B.C. Patient Service Centres due to the spread of Omicron and related protocols which have resulted in severe employee impacts,” the company said in a statement.

“This is a temporary measure. We will continue to monitor the situation over the next two weeks and provide a further update at that time.”

LifeLabs said the closures were done to maintain consistent service for its customers and reduce increased pressure on existing staff. The company said it is re-deploying staff from closed sites to other locations.
