It’s Lunar New Year, starring the dragon

Celebrations are being held in Greater Victoria this weekend and next.

• A weekend for celebrations: Today is Lunar New Year, marking the beginning of the Year of the Wood Dragon. Celebrations this weekend include events at the Chinese Canadian Museum in Fan Tan Alley featuring Chinese treats and opportunities to learn about zodiac signs. The Wong Sheung Kung Fu Club will be performing at Uptown Centre at 12:30 p.m. today and at Esquimalt Town Square at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Next ­weekend, on Feb. 18, will see lions and dragons parading through Victoria’s ­Chinatown and blessing the businesses from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
