An injured man from a logging site near Holberg on northern Vancouver Island was transported to hospital in Victoria by an air-force helicopter crew.

The middle-aged man was in stable condition when he was flown to Victoria after being hit by a falling branch Monday. An ambulance was able to reach him but further assistance was requested from Victoria’s Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre when it was decided he needed urgent care.

A Cormorant helicopter was dispatched from 19 Wing Comox and had to battle bad weather most of the way to Holberg, which is located east of Port Hardy.

Monday’s incident followed another North Island rescue on Sunday by an air-force helicopter crew. A man reported in medical distress on a fishboat was rescued when the vessel was about 80 nautical miles west of Port Hardy.
