The names of a motorcyclist and a pedestrian who died in a Lake Cowichan collision on Saturday were released Thursday by regional coroner Matt Brown.

The driver of the motorcycle was 60-year-old Arthur Randy Barnard of Chemainus.

Barnard's motorcycle struck and killed 48-year-old Sandra Dempsey, also known as Sandra Engstrom, as she crossed Youbou Highway at Neva Road.

Both died from multiple trauma, said Brown.

Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash. Toxicology tests will be performed on both people and results will be available in four to six weeks.
