A suspicious device that turned out to be a rusted industrial pot shut down Dunedin Street for three hours on Friday.

Victoria police’s Emergency Response Team was called to the Gorge Road area about 12:30 p.m. after what looked like a pressure cooker was found on the side of the road.

Victoria police spokesman Bowen Osoko said it appears someone carelessly discarded the pot, which ended up costing significant police resources.

“We had some concerns, which is why we applied the resources that we did, but it has been determined to be a non-suspicious device,” he said.

The road was reopened by 3:30 p.m.
