A 46-year-old man detained as part of an impaired driving investigation at the B.C. Ferries terminal in Port Hardy had a handgun in his vehicle, say RCMP.

Officers located the man in the Port Hardy terminal on Saturday after police received a report of a suspected impaired driver in the Bella Bella ferry lineup.

In a statement, RCMP said a search of the man’s vehicle turned up a handgun as well as ammunition.

The weapon and ammunition were seized for forensic analysis.

The man has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court date on May 20, 2024.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Port Hardy RCMP at 250-949-6335.
