Seniors who enjoy free walk-on rides on B.C. Ferries will need to make minor adjustments to their routines when boarding with the new B.C. Services Card.
Unlike B.C.’s Gold CareCard, the new cards have no distinguishing colour for B.C. residents ages 65 and older. So seniors will need to physically pass the new cards to agents, who will verify their age, rather than just flash the cards.
“We just wanted to give customers a little bit of a heads-up,” said B.C. Ferries spokeswoman Deborah Marshall on Monday. The new B.C. Services Card was introduced Feb. 15 and will be rolled out over the next five years. Ferries will continue to accept the Gold CareCard.
One-way walk-on fare for the Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen route is $14.85 for adults. B.C. seniors can board free on all but three northern routes Mondays to Thursdays and get discounts on northern routes. — Times Colonist
