Nanaimo RCMP are investigating the theft of seven signs related to a 21-year-old missing-person case.

Lisa Marie Young was 21 when she went missing during the Canada Day weekend in 2002. She was last seen leaving a nightclub on June 30 of that year.

The stolen signs were in a grassy area next to the TD Bank and Country Grocer, at the intersection of Bowen Road and Dufferin Crescent in Nanaimo.

The first theft occurred in late March, and the most recent happened between Sunday and Tuesday.

Cindy Hall, Young’s long-time friend, told police she is “shocked beyond belief” that anyone would take the signs.

She said that before erecting the signs, she spoke to nearby businesses to ensure they had no objections.
