A 4.3-magnitude earthquake off Vancouver Island’s west coast early Friday was likely an aftershock from a nearby quake the previous week, says a Natural Resources Canada earthquake seismologist.
John Cassidy said the quake struck about 200 kilometres west of Tofino about 4:45 a.m. in “essentially the same area” as the 4.8 temblor on May 2.
The depth of the quake was in the range of five to 10 kilometres, he said.
No tsunami or damage has resulted, and no reports about people feeling the effects have been reported, Cassidy said.
“It was too far away and a little bit too small.”
