A five-year-old girl was rushed to hospital this morning after being struck by a pick up truck when she ran into traffic in Nanaimo.
The little girl was walking with her mother and older sibling on Wakesiah Avenue between First and Second streets around 8:30 a.m. when she suddenly bolted from her mother and onto the road, Nanaimo RCMP said.
She was hit by a Dodge Calibre pickup driven by a 27-year-old woman, RCMP spokesman Sgt. Gary O’Brien said.
B.C. Ambulance paramedics rushed the girl to hospital to treat a broken pelvis and possible internal injuries.
The driven is co-operating with investigators and speed and alcohol are not factors. No charges will be laid.
Victim services are being offered to the driver and the mother.
