A Coombs family is safe after a fire damaged part of their home on Saturday afternoon.

Coombs firefighters arrived on the scene about 2:15 p.m. to find fire spreading at the rear of a house at 800 Poplar Way.

A married couple and their children live at the address, according to firefighters.

The husband returned home to find a haze of smoke in the house. His son was in one of the rooms not affected by the fire. Both had exited the house by the time firefighters arrived, and no one was injured.

The fire was contained to a storage room and bedroom.

“The cause is undetermined at this time,” said Capt. Aaron Poirier.

Errington, Qualicum Beach and Parksville firefighters provided mutual aid.
