A major filming production is expected to close down a section of downtown Nanaimo for five weeks.

The Downtown Nanaimo Business Association said Diana Krall Plaza and its adjacent streets will undergo phased closures to the public from April 22 to May 31 for the filming of an unspecified production, starting with Wharf Street on April 22.

In early May, a block of Skinner Street between Commercial and Bastion Streets is expected to close.

Later that month, the section of Commercial Street between Bastion Street and the Trans Canada Highway will close to public traffic and pedestrians for the production.

Most affected businesses are expected to close during this time.

Access to the library, the Coastal Credit Union, and parkade elevator will be maintained throughout the closures, the association said in a website notice.

The Downtown Nanaimo Business Association said dates for the Commercial Street and Skinner Street closings have yet to be determined.

Grant Horne Lane will remain open to traffic during filming.
