A 35-year-old Duncan woman is in hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle on the Trans Canada Highway last night.
The woman was crossing the road in front of the Burger King restaurant in Duncan around 6 p.m. when she was hit by a pickup truck heading southbound in a 50 kilometre an hour zone.
The driver was unable to stop before striking the pedestrian, said North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Krista Hobday.
The 63-year-old driver from Port Alberni stopped and remained at scene along with several witnesses.
"The woman is recovering in a Victoria area hospital from significant injuries," said Hobday.
Anyone who witnesses the crash and hasn’t already given a statement is asked to call North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522.
